Recreation of Anni Albers’ woven artwork Cities using code.

Computation and weaving share a lot of similarities in terms of the planning and process behind creating and executing a pattern. For this project, I recreated Cities, a textile artwork by Anni Albers, and tried to capture the interlacing effect as the threads overlapped on each other to create seemingly new colors.

I also particularly enjoyed the seeming serendipity in the placements of the colors and threads in this piece, giving the visual of rhythmic city buildings and lights. Translated to code with constraint random() functions, each run created slightly different results with similar effect.
